The tenth installment of Forum's YB Snake Sessions proved to be a hot one. While the contestants were throwing down,
the temperature at Bear Mountain, CA was steadily climbing, peaking somewhere around 70 degrees for the day. Forum team rider JP Walker
flew in from SLC to host and judge the event, and Cobra Dogs made the haul down to serve up some of the finest "Dawgs" this
side of the Mississippi. DJ Slipknot was also on-hand laying down smooth beats and grooves for the riders to flow to.
The first round started with a 45 minute "snake session" on three different features, each judged individually with riders
advancing on overall impression. The features consisted of a 40ft single barrel down rail, a corrugated barrel, and an 8 foot wallride
all compliments of "The Scene" at Bear Mountain.
For the finals JP decided to take the top 10 riders and narrow them down to 5 by having a “Front-Board Off” on the down rail, best out of 5 for each rider,
with the top 5 winners moving on to a 15 minute jam session on the kink rail.
Ian Sams tasted glory in the final round after which he, along with the rest of the competitors, headed over to The Cobra Dog cart and stuffed their faces with some serious tube-steak. |
| INTERVIEW WITH THE WINNER -
Ian Sams |
FORUM: I take it you are a local here?
IAN: Yeah! Crestline, UE! Put that in there!
FORUM: How long have you been riding up here?
IAN: I don’t remember...years.
FORUM: Since you were 2 or since you were 10?
IAN: How about 8? So about 7 years.
FORUM: What do you think your best trick was today?
IAN: Front board through the kink was sick and then, uh, 270 front nose and then, uh, switch front blunt back board 270? That’s about it.
FORUM: Are you more of a rail rider then?
IAN: Yeah, I’m more into rails than jumps.
FORUM: If you had a newbie to the area hitting you up for where to go at bear…where should they be going? What features in the park?
IAN: Sickest part? Street Scene, for sure.
FORUM: Where are you from, originally?
IAN: I was born here and moved to Crestline. I’ve been there ever since then.
FORUM: Where are you in school?
IAN: I’m in home school.
FORUM: That works out pretty well for riding.
IAN: Yeah, definitely.
FORUM: Do you normally do contests?
IAN: Yeah, when I can. As much as possible.
FORUM: What’s your favorite place to ride besides home?
IAN: Sierra at Tahoe. That’s the sickest place.
FORUM: Ok, then. What are your top 3 on your playlist?
IAN: Biggie, Busta, Wu Tang, number 1…old rock is pretty sick... Led Zepplin.
FORUM: What do you want to do with riding in the next couple of years?
IAN: Just whatever. See where it goes.
FORUM: Cool. Who do you ride with usually?
IAN: The Broke-off twins, everyone that’s usually here…Brice, Chris, Nobles.
FORUM: Do you have a rider that you’re particularly influenced by?
IAN: Yeah, I like Chris Bradshaw.
