| INTERVIEW WITH THE WINNER - Seppe Smits |
Forum: So you're all the way from Belgium. How come you're in Innsbruck?
Seppe: I am here for the youngblood contest because I was staying in Mayrhofen
but as it's so near by I came to check out the contest.
Forum: How long are you here for?
Seppe: Until next week then I'm headed to Lausane in Switzerland for the Billabong Jr. pro and
a couple of other events.
Forum: So at 15 it seems like you are always travelling then?
Seppe:
Most of the time.....
Forum:What about school?
Seppe:
In Belgium we have to go and study a lot to get everything done when we
have missed something whilst we have been out riding. We are also at a
top sports school so they understand totally what we are doing and as
long as our marks are good then we are fine to go riding.
Forum: How you did find the contest today?
Seppe:
It was fun, the kicker was small but with a good shape and the
organization was really good and the bbq was really good too at lunch
time.
Forum: What did you think of the other riders?
Seppe: There were a lot of other good riders here today especially some of the
locals who where throwing down.
Forum: I saw your brother did a cab 10 and back 9.
Seppe's brother Anthony: I heard you guys calling try a cab 10 and so I tried one and it came
good it was only the second time I tried it but with a kicker of only 10
metres it was too small really so I had to spin too fast.
Forum: So where did you start riding?
Seppe:We started riding 7 years ago but the first two years was only 1 week a
year outside on snow on the piste and then the last year we have been
doing freestyle stuff.
Forum: Where did you learn?
Seppe: In Belgium, in Peer, it's got a fun park of 100 metres with couple of
rails and one kicker and one kicker with two tables. The small jump is
6 metres and the big one 9 or 10 metres.
Forum: You ride there year round?
Seppe: Yeah for sure there! It is always perfect conditions never bad weather
or wind and so you can ride like 100 laps in a couple of hours and
really get to know the kickers well. That's the best way to learn all
quickly. You can do 7s with style but 9s you need to spin way to quick
but its so good to learn.
Forum: Did you ride with Peter [Konig] much today?
Seppe: This was the first time I saw Peter riding and he has an insane smooth
style. He really impressed everyone and I saw him helping the younger
kids with some tricks too so it was a good day to meet him.
Forum: So after Billabong Jr Pro where to then?
Seppe: After lausane we go home till the next holidays to study and catch
up on work. Then we go to Les Deux Alpes for a week and then the
Belgium championships start. There are some really great riders from
Belgium but we really hope to finish high.
Forum: Thanks for your time!!!! Well done on a sick day shredding!!
