The Mt. Seymore stop of Forum Snake Sessions only took a mere 30 minutes from downtown Vancouver. There’s no way you can get to
anything good that close to a city, right? I guess someone forgot to tell Mt. Seymour that mountains are supposed to lie nestled behind treacherous
snow covered roads far outside of any major city. Local shreds along with Forum Canadian am, Philip Thomas, held down the scoring during the first round of
competition between approximately 50 rippers.
The set up was clean. Riders could hit the flat rail or the flat down and follow that up on a nice little kicker. Forum team riders Joni Malmi and Jake Blauvelt
were also onhand to snake a few runs throughout the contest as well. They decided to take over the judging for the final round as the top 10 riders hit the QP up a tree. That
feature was def the highlight of the series so far. Malmi & Blauvelt kept it pretty focused while watching the finalists however words of encouragement and applause came
from resident lurker Paavo Tikkanen. It must have worked. The finalists really stepped it up and were averaging about 12ft up that tree. Thanks to everyone at Seymour for hooking it up! |
| INTERVIEW WITH THE WINNER - Jessie Delgrosse |
FORUM: What got you into snowboarding to begin with? Take it back a few years.
JESSIE: A few of my friends, ya know, were just like, “COME SHRED!” And then I really just couldn’t do it.
My friend’s dad taught me how. He actually passed away a few years ago, so he’s kinda like my inspiration to snowboard more. It’s good.
So, there’s a little moving story behind it!
FORUM: Whoa, It is! Hey, so what were your expectations when you came out today? Did you feel pretty good about today?
JESSIE: Come on! It’s like the best day ever. It seems like every time I come to Seymour it’s at least plus 10 [Celsius]. Hot. Rails. Good sesh.
So I dunno. I was ready for it. Last night my buddy was like, “There’s a youngblood comp tomorrow.” So I was like, "Really?,
Okay we’ll drive!", ya know? Came down. This is it. Had a fun day.
FORUM: You’re from whistler, right?
JESSIE: Not originally, but yeah, I live there right now.
FORUM: What’s your transition, then? Where do you live normally?
JESSIE: Well, I have a girlfriend back in Quebec so…
FORUM: Ooohhhh….it’s like that.
JESSIE: Yeah, she’s super cool. Good shredder, too.
FORUM: What did you think about that tree jib? Is that kinda feature your thing?
JESSIE: Not at all.
FORUM: You seemed to be pretty decent at it...
JESSIE: That was the first time I’ve ever hit a tree jib like that. I was pretty surprised that you guys chose a quarterpipe for the final,
but it definitely turned out to be a fun sesh. Everyone was smiling. That’s what it was all about, really. |
