| The last Youngblood event of the 2007 season found us at Mt St Louis Moonstone in
Ontario hosted by Forum team riders Travis Kennedy and Forum international rider Nic Sauve. MC Matt Houghton from Snowboard Canada
Magazine held down the mike keeping things lively while over 70 competitors and snakers took to the hill.
The rail set up was simple, a down rail and a box, allowing for riders to get tech. There were two options
for jumps at the end of the course...pick the wrong one and you land on the knuckle. Fierce! Anyway, goggle
tans abound, the Ontarians were out to have a good time and win some free product. The ladies were also out in full effect.
This contest had the most female riders of any contest of the season. Stand out was definitely Mt. St. Louis local Mariko Swanick.
In the major upset of the day, a guy showed up halfway through the first round. No one had any idea who he was…but in true "snaker" fashion,
he won the whole shebang. That’s what snaking is all about, eh? |
| INTERVIEW WITH THE WINNER -
Kyle Hefkey |
Forum: Ok, now. How did you get here today?
Kyle: I took a bus.
Forum: A bus?
Kyle: Yeah, it cost me, like, 40 bucks.
Forum: Are you serious?
Kyle: Yeah! You guys owe me some money.
Forum: You took a bus from where?
Kyle: Aurelia.
Forum: How far away is that?
Kyle: About 20 minutes.
Forum: And they just drop you off at the mountain?
Kyle: No. First you have to go all the way to Barrie, then all the way here.
Forum: Did you catch the bus from your house?
Kyle: No. I had to take a taxi.
Forum: You took a taxi, to a bus to get here today?
Kyle: Yeah!
Forum: What happened to your car?
Kyle: Um, I kinda don’t have a license.
Forum: Alright, let’s back up, mystery guy. Let get the basics since you showed up late. How old are you?
Kyle: 18.
Forum: And you took a cab to a bus to a boat to get here…
Kyle: Yep.
Forum: You are a local. You were late to the contest, snaked in and won first place. Is that pretty much it?
Kyle: Yeah, my bus didn’t get here until 10:30 so I thought I would miss it.
Forum: Are you from here originally?
Kyle: Originally, I’m from Horse Shoe. And I would go to Horse Shoe and here all the time.
Forum: What do you do when you aren’t snowboarding?
Kyle: I like to travel. I want to travel the world.
Forum: What’s your favorite place you’ve been so far?
Kyle: Philadelphia.
Forum: What do you like better? Rails or jumps?
Kyle: I prefer jumps, but rails I just kinda started this year.
Forum: How long have you been riding?
Kyle: 12 years, but I was mostly a rider that just rode down hills because I was scared to hit rails. Now I do.
Forum: What was your favorite trick you threw today?
Kyle: I think, the backside indy 5. That’s my favorite trick.
