Stepping up the level of competition in a huge way, the Quebec scene was in full effect for their Youngblood competition.
Hanging out and eating hotdogs was the best trick of the day - well, maybe not, but they sure tasted good. International team rider Nic Sauvé held
it down for Forum at the event, even after staying out all night at his birthday celebration. 105 competitors
were on hand for a seriously burley showdown. The vibe at the session was off the charts. The terrain park staff hooked it up with a back-to-back
table top and one flat rail.
During the final round the competition was heated. Who was going to take their place in the VIP tent when all was said and done?
In a quintessential French move, the riders had a “Protest Session” allowing the crowd to cheer for any fellow rider whom they thought the judges
overlooked for the finals. This worked for a few riders and they were added to the ranks of the top riders for the last round.
The judging was tough, without a doubt. To make the top 3, each rider competing in the final had to be able to bs180, fs360, cab720.
The judges called the tricks and the riders had to land it. The last trick called was a switch bs9. You think they could do it? Absolutely. |
| INTERVIEW WITH THE WINNER -
Jesmond Dubeau |
Forum:
What is your local hill?
Jesmond: Blue Mountain, Ontario.
Forum:
What brings you to Avilla today?
Jesmond: They have a cool park, good riders, and this is always a fun contest.
Forum: How old are you and how long have you been riding?
Jesmond: I'm 18 years old and I started snowboarding 8 years ago.
Forum: The judges noticed that most of the riders had a hard time with the FS180 session. Do you think that this trick is harder than any 900 spin?
Jesmond: Hummm, yes it is harder.
Forum: What would be your snowboarding dream day?
Jesmond: A combination of blue bird and a big jump.
Forum: Which pro would you be riding with that day and where?
Jesmond: With Iikka Backstrom at Mammoth Mountain.
Forum: Do you have any goals for the rest of the season?
Jesmond: To have a spot at the shakedown and ride as much as I can.
Forum: Did you have fun at today's Snake Session?
Jesmond: Hell yeah, after someone explained to me in English the format of the contest!
